Some dogs really are just picky eaters, or not very food motivated and will sometimes skip meals because they simply aren’t hungry, but in general, it is not normal for a dog to be a picky eater. If a dog is exhibiting signs of being a picky eater, there are some medical conditions that should be ruled out first such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, liver diseases (some of which can be a congenital condition they are born with) and possible food allergies to name a few.
Of course, there are those dogs that learn very quickly that if they don’t eat what is offered, they might get something better so they hold out for that special something else. However, it should not just be presumed that your dog is a picky eater without first ruling out a more serious medical condition.
